The mission of the Baby Blanket Project ~ A Foundation From The Heart, Inc. is to create a caring world by providing baby blankets and other infant items to financially needy mothers and their newborns. Many low income mothers do not have the ability to provide their new children with many necessities we take for granted, especially books. The Baby Blanket Project particularly hopes to encourage an early start to a good education by providing baby books and encouraging new mothers to read to their babies.
delivering packages is exhilarating, knowing that there has been a magical difference made to someones life; its also saddening because I know theres so much more work to be done. ~ Elissa, Founder
The Baby Blanket Project ~ A Foundation From The Heart was started in 2000 by 5-year-old Elissa Redmiles. Elissa came up with the idea of providing baby blankets and other infant items to financially needy mothers and their newborns. With minimal assistance from her mother and father, Elissa sent letters to friends and family, asking for small donations to help start her project.
Over the past 12 years, nearly 1,000 Baby Blanket packages have been distributed to financially needy mothers and their babies.
In 2006 the Washington D.C. law firm Williams and Connoly turned the Baby Blanket Project into a 501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit organization, probono. Donations to the project are now tax deductible for individuals and large organizations.
